Client:  City of Pasadena and Pasadena Playhouse
Location:  Pasadena

Project Overview:
In 1996, ForSight Creations worked with the City of Pasadena to completely restore one of the city’s oldest and most recognizable signs for the historic Pasadena Playhouse.  The Playhouse Theater, built in 1925, is located in the heart of the Pasadena Playhouse District.  The main identification sign for the Playhouse has been recognized for decades as a iconic landmark in Pasadena.

ForSight Creations was able to use photographs, clues from the original sign, and other historical evidence to restore and replicate the theater’s main identification sign to its original appearance.  The process included things such as taking a live pattern of the font and letter size relationship to preserve the original font, sizing, and letter kerning.  It also included major electrical work in order to replicate the original neon.  The sign was moved from its original location in front of the theater to the corner of Colorado Blvd. and El Molino, and now points the way to the Pasadena Playhouse from this location.

The historic Pasadena Playhouse, located at 39 South El Molino, originally opened in 1925.  It has remained continuously active, except for a 16 year period from 1970 – 1986 in which the theater was vacant.  It was brought back to life in 1986 and now stands as a landmark in the city of Pasadena and as one of the great institutions of American theater.  To learn more you can visit the Pasadena Playhouse online at www.pasadenaplayhouse.org.
